TOMS ‘Barefoot Walk Before Work’

Global for-profit organisation, TOMS is set to help raise awareness for underprivileged children this Thursday morning in Perth at their ‘Barefoot Walk Before Work’ walk.

Barefoot Walk Before Work

Starting at the Cottesloe Beach Hotel at 6.30am on Thursday 21st of May, guests will walk up to Eric Street and back barefoot in a bid to raise awareness for all the children around the world that don’t have the privilege of wearing shoes.

Coffee, tea and a light breakfast will be provided thereafter by the Cottesloe Beach Hotel. So get dressed and get on down (and leave your shoes behind) to take a walk in one of this year’s biggest global fundraisers.

Oh and whether you can make it along or not on Thursday morning, become involved by posting an Instagram tile of your bare feet with the hashtag #WITHOUTSHOES from May 5th through until May 21st and TOMS will give a new pair of shoes to a child in need*.  Then tag your friends and challenge them to do the same…because the more you share, the more you give!

Why shoes?

•  At least 4 million people in 15 countries are affected by podoconiosis, a debilitating disease that causes painful swelling of the feet and legs (Source: WHO, 2013).
•  IN ETHIOPIA: TOMS Giving Partner IOCC produces specially made boots to help treat and reverse the effects of podoconiosis. They are then distributed in local clinics supported by TOMS.
•  Providing children with school uniforms, which often include shoes, can increase school attendance by up to 62% (Source: Evans, 2009).
•  IN INDIA: TOMS Giving Partner Magic Bus’ programs distribute TOMS School Shoes and encourage children to attend school regularly, which reduces their chances of dropping out.
