In memory of a family friend who sadly lost his battle with pancreatic cancer in 2012, I chose the Avner Nahmani Pancreatic Cancer Foundation. Each year over 2,000 Australians are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and sadly, almost all of them are defeated by it. Hence wanting to raise much needed funds for research and also to raise awareness.

Admittedly, before this charity challenge I had little idea of just how lethal pancreatic cancer was. I’d heard of Steve Jobs and Patrick Swayze passing from it but I didn’t know that fewer than 5% who develop this disease survive it. Nor that the median life expectancy after being diagnosed is between 3 and 6 months.

Staggeringly, there has been no progress made in the last 40 years of research so the Avner Nahmani Pancreatic Cancer Foundation was formed in 2010 to support and promote its research. And aid its development of quality care, treatments and support for those families and carers affected by it.

My aim is to bring awareness, with the hopeful result of early detection! Please vote for my outfit here (every day) so $1 can go to the Avner Nahmani Pancreatic Cancer Foundation. And together we can raise awareness so that hopefully one day we will find a cure for pancreatic cancer.
