Meet The Inspirational Women Featured In This Year’s Pirelli Calendar

“Looking for Juliet” is the theme for the latest Pirelli Calendar.

Photographed by Paolo Roversi, the concept of reimagining Shakespeare’s iconic play is nothing new – both in cinema and in fashion.

However, to redefine one of history’s most remarkable love stories as a contemporary modern-day version. One that focuses solely on the fact that there’s a Juliet in all of us. That’s what’s sending this otherwise tragic romance – along with the formerly glamour focused Pirelli “Cal” – back into the spotlight…

Known for his soft, monochromatic photographs of women, Roversi hand selected eight incredibly inspiring women, actresses and models from our time. All of which have embodied a concept of love throughout the calendar’s pages.

So then, who are these inspiring eight women? And more importantly, what’s their take on this incredibly captivating rendition?

“I was looking for a pure soul, someone full of innocence that combined strength, beauty, tenderness and courage,” Roversi says.

“I found this in the glimmer of an eye, in the gestures and words of Emma and Yara, Indya and Mia and in the smiles and tears of Kristen and Claire…in the voices and chants of Chris and Rosalía. In Stella, we have the innocence. There’s a Juliet in every woman.”

Fit for a new decade, this year’s calendar took six months to photograph and produce. And it focused on Emma Watson, Claire Foy, Yara Shahidi and Mia Goth (as well as Roversi’s own daughter, Stella) as the chosen actresses auditioning for the role of Juliet. While Kristen Stewart, Chinese pop-star Chris Lee and Indya Moore challenged the character’s relationship with gender and sex.

Vicky began her career writing fashion, lifestyle and music related articles for a diverse range of print and digital media outlets. Shortly thereafter – upon discovering that a vast majority of the fashion industry were being out-shadowed by the commercial conglomerates of the world – Vicky (who equally grew tired of having no creative freedom herself) set out to create her own digital publishing platform that focused on promoting the incredible talents of all creatives within the fashion industry. Which is how The Fashion Catalyst began in 2009.
