Local Fashion & Textile and Jewellery Design graduating students from Curtin University commemorated the completion of their final year of study with an innovative and dynamic grand finale runway show called Home Ground.
Set at Curtuin Stadium, with a European style runway and a seasoning of Perthalites, the show exhibited the unconventional designs of Kate Townsend, Kimberly Gouges, Justine Valendar, Hannah Farleigh, Sarah Munday, Sophie Robinson, Kit Yu Tsang (Yo), Hiu Kwan Lai, Emma Brown, Elizabeth West, Emma Pullbrook, Kathryn Bell, Hoi Ki Wong (Hidy), Erin Larkin, Eleasha Anderson, Ellen Aunins, Daniella Caputi, Lok Man Suen (Moon), Rebecca Timson, Kiara Thomson and Ellie Meyer.
Since seeing some of their designs earlier this year at Perth Fashion Festival‘s Student Runway, and after years of building structure, philosophy, innovation and a wealth of industry experience, it was clearly evident that the 21 local designers had emerged themselves in enthusiasm and forged another lasting impression on our fashion industry.[cincopa 10521953]
And, as with all graduation fashion shows, the evening consisted of a number of awards. Congratulations to the following designers for standing out amongst the fashion pack:
Kiara Thomson – winner of the Style Aid Awesomeness Award:
Kate Townsend – winner of the School of Design & Art Award:
Ellie Meyer – winner of the School of Design & Art Research Award:
Lok Man Suen (Moon) – winner of the Creative Design Award:
Daniella Caputi – winner of the Fashion Design Award:
Emma Brown – winner of the Fashion Technical Award:
Celebrating Avant-garde inspired pieces mixed amongst soft feminine and feathered thigh-high dresses, tassels, lace, loose threads, neon lights and sun-kissed coloured frocks; the evening brought about a sense of fashion freedom.
By far the best of the seasonal graduate students, we’re sure we’ll be seeing more of the gifted Curtin Fashion & Textile and Jewellery Design graduating students of 2009 on our runways soon.
