Barbie Turns 50!

The fabulously loveable and iconic Barbie has turned 50!

And the Art Gallery of Western Australia has decided to celebrate the milestone with its very own Vintage Barbie @ the Gallery display.

Which meant that it was only natural that we were there to help celebrate this glorious event with them too. After all, it’s not every day that Barbie turns the big 5-0.

And what a delightful night it was. Consisting of cupcakes, guest speakers and the fabulous collector display (pictured above) by renowned Barbie collector Neil Taylor.

Who’s Neil Taylor? Neil is a Barbie collector. A very serious one at that. And he’s been building his vintage collection for over 20 years now.

And from Wednesday, 23 September through until Sunday, 11 October, you too can view this once in a lifetime display.

You can also have your collection appraised by Neil himself. If you were wise enough to collect these prestigious dolls.

Neil will be appraising on the following dates:

  • Saturday 26 September @ 11am-2pm
  • Sunday 27 September @ 11am-2pm
  • Saturday 3 October @ 11am-2pm
  • Sunday 4 October @ 11am-2pm
  • Saturday 10 October @ 11am-2pm
  • Sunday 11 October @ 10am-12:30pm & 1:30-5pm

The Gallery Shop will also be decorated in pink to mark the milestone. And they’re also stocked with limited edition dolls and children’s products. As well as a selection of Barbie books that feature examples from the Neil Taylor collection.

And by simply visiting the shop, you can go into the draw to win a Barbie hamper valued at over $500. Oooh, sounds incredible. Good luck to everyone that enters!

And – we wish you a very happy birthday, Barbie!

Shortly thereafter – upon discovering that a vast majority of the fashion industry were being out-shadowed by the commercial conglomerates of the world – Vicky (who equally grew tired of having no creative freedom herself) set out to create her own digital publishing platform that focused on promoting the incredible talents of all creatives within the fashion industry. Which is how The Fashion Catalyst began in 2009.
