Myer Spring Summer 09 Collection Launch

Golden girl Jennifer Hawkins graces the stage for Perth fashion enthusiasts at the Myer Spring/Summer 09 collection launch.

With a burst of whites and brights, the crowd were pleased by the selection of specialty designer brands on display; Aurelio Costarella, Manning Cartell, Wayne by Wayne Cooper, Camilla and Marc, Leona by Leona Edmiston, NF by Nicola Finetti, Cozi by Jen Hawkins herself plus many more.

For the first time, plus size models took to the stage boasting garments by Estelle, Basque Woman and Jane Lamerton Woman.  Australia’s Next Top Model winner Tahnee Atkinson, Perth Fashion Festival’s face of 2009 Emily Cattermole and other local models; Gemma Bidstrup, Stephanie Whife and Tom Bull were all there to strut their stuff at the Myer SS09 collection launch.

With Jen’s forecasted trends set to be colour and lots of it, she also thinks the maxi dress is still a season must have for Spring/Summer.

Fortunate for fashionista’s, all the garments are in Myer department stores around the country now.

Jennifer Hawkins signs multi million-dollar deal

Jen Hawkins Myer

Just days since signing a 4 year extended contract to be the face and ambassador of Myer, Jennifer Hawkins was beaming at the Spring/Summer 09 collection launch.

While most models dream of a job like this, Jen is achieving it and much more.  With her new swimsuit label called Cozi, which Jen designs exclusively to Myer, and her other commitments; TV presenter for Channel 7 and contracts with Lovable, Covergirl and Audi, Jen is set to be quite the contender in this year’s BRW Top 50 Entertainers list.

The former Miss Universe 2004 will reportedly earn more than $1 million per annum from the extended contract and has been given a large portion of shares in the company.  This comes just days after Myer releases a 14.8 percent rise in full-year earnings and a whopping $109 million net profit earning for 2009.

With 65 stores across Australia compared with 36 for main rival David Jones, Myer looks set to complete its 50-month plan to turn around the business and is due to float on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) before the busy Christmas period.

Sex, Love and Rock n Roll Fire Up Perth Fashion Festival

The old Gas Works building on Wellington St. Perth was blazing-hot last night as Ruth Tarvydas unveiled her sexy new collection.

Tarvydas rocked the house with her stunning creations, which provoked, shocked and awed the mesmerized VIP audience. Thigh-high slits, plunging low backs, daring keyholes and shredded fabric, more than hinted at a glimpse of skin – it flaunted it. More than a few bare bottomed models would have felt the winter chill, with a number of raunchy frocks featuring the behind rather than the usual décolletage. In anyone else’s hands it might have resulted in tasteless, tacky nudity, but in Tarvydas’s it was rock chick sexiness.

Inspiration was clearly drawn from the 80s. Hair was a sophisticated bun with an 80s makeover – crimped and quiffed to Cynde Lauper perfection. Madonna, Eurythimics and other classic eighties artists pounded from the speakers to match the bright pinks, oranges and purples peppered through the collection.

The collection was also reminiscent of Tarvydas’s early designs from the 90s, with wired-fabric features jutting out from the shoulder or encircling the hips. But the design touches that Tarvydas is best known for today, dominated the collection. The artistic use of crystals, light flowing fabrics and feminine silhouettes reminded the audience just why Tarvydas dominates the evening wear market. Her designs are a show-stopping salutation to the curves that make a woman fabulous.

Walking on to the catwalk to take a bow, along with hugs and kisses from a largely adoring audience, Tarvydas exemplified her edgy, envelope pushing style – clothed in skintight leather pants and black patent PVC elbow length gloves.

As the last ’stand-alone-show’ of the week long Perth Fashion Festival, Ruth gave punters exactly what they were hoping for: sexy, rock’n’roll glamour! It will be a tough show to top.

Morrison

Perth Fashion Festival to me is like a gift bag; full of goodies!  While some are packed with throw away [must-have] items, others are packed with treats that promise to delight each and every sense of the body.  Be it true, last night’s Morrison show was the sweetest of all the treats.

At the first ever independent runway show for The Perth Fashion Festival, Morrison boasted two very sophisticated collections: Black and Neutral.  According to Morrison black is back for summer and we think that is the best fashion rule ever to be broken.  Who says summer has to be bright?  Besides, what better way to wear black: shear and sophisticatedly see through!

With elegant pieces of delicately draped fabrics and fine fitting garments, this was by far the highlight of the festival.  You can see for yourself here:

Worn and adorned by celebrities all over the globe, you too can find these garments and more at the following locations:

Melbourne Spring Fashion Week 2009

Melbourne Spring Fashion Week 1-6 September 2009.

An Affair To Remember; High Tea

The elegance and beauty that went into the An Affair To Remember; High Tea, was nothing short of breathtaking.  The charitable event took 10 months to organise and it was no wonder, as each individual teacup and saucer was hand picked from local Op Shops by the ladies from Martini+Coz; Erica Allia and Natasha Hinett, with such class and precision.

The afternoon event, which took place at The Form Art Gallery on Murray Street, was held to raise awareness of Breast Cancer.  All money raised on the day went to The Cancer Council to help fund research, awareness, and support to those effected by breast cancer.

The fashion filled afternoon exhibited local designers; Martini+Coz, LULU, Luxe by JJ. and Pinch and Spoon, taking the afternoon from elegance to glamour.

My fascinator goes off to guest speakers; Anne-Marie Carpenter, Mary Thornton and Simmone Burns who contributed to the afternoon’s success and to the inovative organisers Erica Allia and Natasha Hinett of Martin+Coz for their dedicated work towards such a successful day.

The event marked the start of an annual tradition whereby the theme will change as will the charity.  These ladies are a credit to The Cancer Council and each charity organisation they select in the future.

West End Haute

Local luxury King Street designers at the 2009 Perth Fashion Festival event; West End Haute, wooed the elite of Perth’s fashion industry yet again at Fashion Paramount.

The event quickly filled for a night of decadence.  And that it was – with a European style runway, thrills, frills and sparkles from Ruth Tarvydas, stripes, flesh and fresh floral prints from Wheels and Dollbaby – Perth’s finest sure were out in force!  Exquisite South Sea Pearls from Kailis adorned beautiful models, along with fabulously crafted textiles from Billie & Rose, Zekka, Subway DC, Dilettante and not to mention an array of Perth’s elite; Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi, Rhonda Wyllie, Bree Maddox, Samantha Druce, Melanie Greensmith and Fashion TV, all joining in the night’s festivities.
